Implant Supported Dentures

Replacing missing teeth with dentures can be a decision that many different dental patients are hesitant to make. There have been myths floating around surrounding dentures, as many believe them to be a dental restoration option that does not look natural, and can be less effective than other more expensive options. However, advancements in cosmetic dentistry have allowed the birth of implant-supported dentures. Implant-supported dentures offer the ease of dentures while also providing a great foundation and support to make sure that your dentures never come out of place or slip around at the least opportune moment. Let’s take a look at what implant-retained dentures are and how they can be the solution to your life that you have been looking for.

At your consultation here at Rock Rose Dental in Roseville, CA, impressions and x-rays are taken of the mouth. By taking a look at your particular set of circumstances, we can create a treatment plan that is perfect for you. At this visit, our dental professionals here at Rock Rose Dental will make sure that your existing jaw bone is dense enough to support dental implants. This appointment would also be the opportunity in which to ask any appropriate questions regarding the surgical procedure.

At the very first surgery is where most of the work takes place. This is when the implant is placed inside the jaw bone. Your dentist will make a small incision and drill a hole into the exposed bone to place the implant in this area and then close it with stitches. This process is repeated with each implant in after surgery is complete, and you’ll be given a recovery period of about three to six months. During these three to six months is when osseointegration will take place.

At the second surgery, your dentist will open up the gums to show the very tops of the implants, which is what is ultimately holding down your dentures. After these tops are exposed, a collar or cap is placed on top of it to guide healing. After about 10 to 14 days, this healing collar is replaced, and your dentures will then be sent off to a lab to be fabricated to your specifications.

At the final visit with your dental professional, a metal bar is placed onto the abutments, and you can finally try on your dentures! It is crucial that you find the right dentist to take you through the entire process. With that being said, don’t hesitate to give the professionals at Rock Rose Dental in Roseville, CA, a phone call to get the teeth that you’ve always deserved!
